The Standing Committee of the Margao Municipal Council on Thursday gave its stamp of approval for a Rs 10 crore surplus budget, even as the Municipal Chairperson Babita Prabhudesai told the administration to concentrate on revenue recoveries and streamline waste segregation at source in the new financial year 2019-20.
The Standing Committee which had a meeting on Thursday evening approved the budget estimates prepared by the office administration with minor changes. The budget estimates will now be placed before the Council for final approval.
After the meeting, Chairperson Babita Prabhudesai said the Council has passed a realistic Rs 10 crore surplus budget, which will lay stress on garbage collection and disposal and revenue recovery.
During discussion, the Chairperson told the Chief Officer Siddivinayak Naik to concentrate on revenue recoveries to achieve the projections made in the budget. She pointed out that revenue concerning wedding and party halls should be tapped by the administration, which will help enrich the coffers of the Council by lakhs of rupees.
She said the Municipality will allocate funds to solid waste management programme in order to ensure that the waste segregation exercise initiated by the civic body is taken to its logical conclusion.
